Are you finishing school but want more practical qualifications, or just don't know which educational path is for you? Or do you already know what career you'd like, but are not sure how to get there? Perhaps you're looking to change your career but lack the necessary skills? Maybe you'd like to boost your existing skills to give yourself a competitive edge in today's difficult job market?

If any of these apply to you then a vocational qualification (VQ) could well be the answer. Millions of people study for vocational qualifications every year, which provide the skills and background knowledge people need in their jobs and careers and are considered a "licence to practise" in some industries. There are thousands of centres across the UK that provide courses in everything from accountancy to veterinary nursing and just about every other industry sector and occupation. June 24th is also 'VQ Day' to celebrate the value of vocational qualifications to the economy, society and individuals of all ages.

So, if you'd like to know more about how a vocational qualification can help you on the path to success, tune in to our WebTV show, featuring Sophie Kelly, VQ Hero – Young Learner of the Year 2008 – who at just 19 years old is the sole carer for her elderly grandmother. Sophie achieved a distinction in her BTEC National Diploma in Care last year which led to a place on a degree course in Social Work at Goldsmiths University. Alongside Sophie is Peter Mitchell, Education Director of Edge, an independent education foundation dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning.

Sophie Kelly and Peter Mitchell from Edge join us live online to discuss vocational education.
