Because the new Star Wars Game: The Force Unleashed has arrived and is available on a shelf in a galaxy or a computer game show near you. Joining me in the studio today to give us an insight into this is one of the stars of the game, Nathalie Cox is. Nathalie, welcome
N: Hello
H: Now remember we are live today so if you want to get your questions in please type in the box on the screen, click send and we will do our very best to get through all your questions, today. As many as possible anyway. Ok, so first of all, before we get our chat underway, we are going to have a quick look at the game itself. It’s right over here
Video Footage
“You have done well my apprentice”
H: Well ok Nathalie, you play Imperial Pilot Juno Eclipse. Tell us a little bit about your character please?
N: Well I’m sort of the Secret Apprentice’s love interest I suppose is the best way to put it, but I work for Darth Vader, I fly a very big ship called the Rogue Shadow and fly the Secret Apprentice around on his secret combat missions
H: Ok, secret –
N: It’s very exciting
H: Secret apprentice, tell us a little bit about him for people who don’t know –
N: He is the main character, the player character basically in the game. And he’s a brand new character to the Star Wars saga, so to speak, that’s been kept hidden for a while and basically Darth Vader is using him to go around and purge the galaxy of Jedi’s, that’s the plan
H: Right, and the game covers the storyline between the first Trilogy and the Second Trilogy
N: Yes, it fits in between episodes 3 and 4
H: And answers a few questions and fills in a couple of gaps?
N: It does, yes. There’s a big time difference I think between those sort of sets of 3 films, so it does fill in some blanks for those die hard fans out there, they will be very, very pleased I think with what they have to hear
H: Ok Nathalie, are you yourself a die hard fan?
N: I was a Star Wars fan before I got involved, yes I have to say I was. I kind of grew up with it so I was a fan, but I’m more of a fan now obviously, having been through it and come out the other end, so yes I am a bit of a die hard fan now so -
H: And you’ve played the game?
N: I haven’t played the game yet
H: You haven’t played the game yet?
N: I’m going home straight after this – no ‘cos it only came out today so I didn’t get a preview copy at all
H: So despite being in the game you never got a chance to play in advance or -
N: No no, they wanted to finish it and get it all done and dusted really, so I’m going straight home after this, this is how I will be spending my weekend, I’m sure
H: Well as with anything Star Wars related we’ve got thousands of questions from fans
N: Ok
H: People are obviously very interested, so I’m going to go to the first one of these right now
N: Yes
H: This is from Mackie and he says “how do you feel about being in this game?”
N: Well it’s quite – I mean it’s quite an experience really, I’m immortalised in the Star Wars industry now, there is a Lego figure of me now and everything, so I mean it’s pretty – it’s pretty impressive but it’s – I feel privileged really to be involved, and George Lucas was very much involved in the whole game from the very first process of you know making the, writing the script and developing the characters, so I feel, you know pretty honoured that I’m part of the universe now
H: And how different was the experience of being in a game, being filmed for a game, from being actually in a film?
N: I mean it was the same in the same sense that there is a story that goes along in the game, you know it does tell a story. It was filmed like a film, there was a movie script and everything, so it plays like a mini movie, the difference being that you kind of, you know obviously in a movie or on TV sets you’re on location somewhere, and with regards to this you’re sort of filming it in a small studio and you’ve got lots of little reflective dots all over your face so they can, you know, get your facial captures. But – so it’s kind of the same but I was working with Sam Witwer who plays the apprentice the whole time, so it’s, you know, interacting with other actor
H: And did you – another question actually from Yumaro, did you have any personal influence over the character development?
N: I didn’t personally but George Lucas obviously was involved a lot, you know like I said he really wanted to be part of it because it does tell another element to the Star Wars saga so you know he got involved from the word go, you know in development of characters and things like that. You know he really wanted to nurture it as he has done all the way through with all the Star Wars, in their characters
H: I mean I’ve got a game related question from Sean from Wembley. “Does he get to take down Darth Vader in the game?”
N: You’re going to have to play the game to find out
H: I’d have thought no, because in this game you play from Darth Vader’s’ point of view don’t you, as far as I know you’re on his team
N: You play it from the Secret Apprentice’s point of view, so you are – he’s the player character that you control, but you’re on his side, on Darth Vader’s side – you’re on the dark side really
H: To be on the dark side do you ever get to fight any storm troupers?
N: You do, you can do lots of horrible things to the storm troupers if you really want to. That’s part of the – part of the greatness of the game I think that uses brand new technology, so you know for example you can pick up storm troupers using the force and throw them across the side of the room, and the characters in the game have almost like a central nervous system, that’s the kind of technology that they’re using, so if you picked up a storm trouper and threw him across the room he will try and grab hold of things to stop himself from falling, which is a fantastic new concept. And you can just have hours of fun just doing things to see how things would react basically
H: I know there’s a lot of genuine hard core Star Wars fans who are relishing the opportunity to battle an Ewok - are they’re going to have the chance to do that
N: Well – the Ewoks, bless them. Like I said you’re going to have to play the game to find out. There’s a lot of -
H: Jar Jar Binks?
N: There are a lot of cameos actually that pop up, a lot of the old faithful characters pop up throughout the game but – it’s fantastic. I mean I can’t rave about it enough really, it is a fantastic game and it’s going to be a great experience for anybody playing it
H: Ok lovely. I have another question here from Cathy T – “do you think this game gives the fans a chance to enter the galaxy for real, and a chance to actually live a part of the story?”
N: Yes absolutely. I mean you are a character within the Star Wars, you know universe. You are playing that character, you’re controlling that character, so the experience is you know so real because of the new technology that they’re using, wood splinters like wood, you know metal bends instead of breaking as it normally would in an old-style computer game, so you know for die hard fans, and for computer game fans, you know it really is going to be a fantastic experience, and as if you are part of the galaxy basically
H: So talking about glass breaking, wood bending -
N: Yes
H: I take it it’s quite a destructive game?
N: It’s – it can be if you want it. It’s as destructive as you want it to be
H: So you can play it peacefully without hurting anyone?
N: Well I don’t think you’d get to the end if you didn’t hurt anybody, but obviously you’ve got the force to contend with. You control the force yourself so you can use that to whichever way you would like basically
H: Lovely. Ok, another question from Yumaro, he’s coming in with some good questions – or she, apologies. “You play the love interest during the game. Do you think you could fall for a guy like Star Killer in real life?”
N: Ooh, that’s a tricky question. I do play the love interest, yes. Well I’ve got to hand it to you, he’s a pretty dishy guy isn’t he really? And Sam who plays the Secret Apprentice looks exactly like him, and he’s very – I did have a bit of a crush on him I have to say, so yes I probably could fall quite easily for somebody like that. And he has the force – what more could a girl ask for?
H: You couldn’t really say he was a minger though could you?
N: No not really. But he’s very – I mean come on, he’s every girl’s dream. He can pick things up and throw them around the room and you know he’s pretty good looking as well
H: Pick things up and throw them around the room
N: You know, it’s pretty good
H: I might get some tips, I’ll get some tips. Understanding. And of course my storm trouper is considerably larger than yours – so I mean if we are going to get to picking things up and throwing them around the room, I think I have a distinct advantage!
N: Definitely
H: Ok, another question here – you’ve said you’re part of the Star Wars universe now
N: Yes
H: You’re part of this tapestry – I mean, you know your character could get picked up and used in sort of other story lines and so on, and so unless you die – but of course you’re not allowed to say anything like that – but that must be very exciting – you’re kind of immortalised in a way aren’t you?
N: Yes that’s – I mean I’m part of the Star Wars, you know saga, I’m in the galaxy now, that’s it, they can’t really ever take that away from me, so I think I could retire happy actually. I think there’s not very many people that can say they’ve been in a Star Wars game and they’re part of the Star Wars universe, so you know long may it reign hopefully
H: Game’s already come out in the US
N: Yes
H: And I think it’s doing very well over there and I believe it’s out in the UK – is it today?
N: Came out today, and it’s about halfway through the day and it’s already number 1 in the UK gaming charts actually, so it’s doing very well over here as well
H: And if people want to play the game before they try it out, it’s available as a demo
N: On Microsoft Xbox 360 I think it’s in there
H: Yes you just about struggled through there
N: It’s on there somewhere. No it’s on there, there’s a demo on there that they can go online and actually play the game. It’s a fantastic game, it really is the most advanced technology in any computer game so from a gaming point of view it’s a fantastic game to play. From a Star Wars point of view it tells a fantastic story and I think it’s pretty much universal. It will appeal to everybody
H: Sorry I just freaked out a little bit then, I felt my Storm Trouper’s hot breath on the back, of my neck. I’m going to re-group, get back into it and I’ve got another question from Timmy C. “Is Nathalie friends with the Storm Troupers in the studio?” So are you friends with the Storm Troupers in the studio? I know you’ve already expressed a desire to be picked up -
N: Yes
H: Thrown around – my tall Storm Trouper’s already nodding at you
N: He’s just nodding at me and he has a gun that’s kind of facing my way, so we’re very close. And they’re coming back to my house for tea afterwards I think
H: There we go Tim. Were the Storm Troupers – were they – who knows? We can’t get into anything like that without George Lucas -
N: We’re going to go home and play the game
H: You’re going to go home and play the game together? Can you play co-op on the game? It’s out today so we’re not sure -
N: What with double players?
H: Yes
N: Yes you can, yes
H: Oh there is co-op on it?
N: On certain formats
H: Oh fantastic
N: Basically. If you want more information obviously there’s the website that you can go to – theforceunleashed.co.uk so that really tells you about all the formats that it’s on and you know what different types on different games you can play
H: Lovely. Ok another question from a fan – “my boyfriend is a Star Wars fanatic, but I’m very new to it all. Is this game a good way to induct myself into all things Star Wars?”
N: Yes. I don’t see why not. It’s – you know you don’t have to actually know anything about the Star Wars universe to enjoy the game and it does, like I said it tells a story so if you’re coming into it completely fresh and not knowing anything about Star Wars then, you know it’s just like you’re looking at a story for the very first time so the more that you play it the more that you will learn about it, so it’s probably a good way to get involved. You know if your partner is a die hard Star Wars fan it’s a good way to start, I would say, definitely
H: Ok, lovely. So that was a question from Chloe. If you do have any questions we’re live right now, we’re going to be on air for another – well another good few minutes, so get your questions in, any questions you have for Nathalie, about the game, about anything else, please get through right now. We have a few up here – oh here we are, this is from Steve. “In a Star Wars universe, who is your personal favourite character?”
N: Ooh that’s a tricky one. I think I’m going to have to go with Hans Solo
H: Hans Solo, what a surprise
N: All the girls go with him
H: I said that at the same time as you
N: Right
H: Now when I was a kid at school it was always – I always wanted to be Luke Skywalker
N: Yes
H: I think because he’s younger, he’s got less responsibility, you know he’s the youngest guy in it
N: Yes
H: But Hans Solo is pretty much the stock answer
N: He’s pretty cool, you know and a young Harrison Ford is very dreamy, I have to say so yes I would have to go with Han Solo really. Although I do like – R2D2 and C3PO as a double act. What more could you ask for, I mean you know, Laurel and Hardy eat your heart out, they are basically a great comedy duo
H: And an interesting off-stage relationship with the two of them in real life
N: I heard the rumours. I wouldn’t like to go there
H: Alright we have some more questions here. We have some more questions here. “Which was your favourite chapter?” Which film did you like the most out of the -
N: Oh gosh that’s a tricky one. I think I’m going to have to say Return of the Jedi really. That was the first movie ever that I saw at the cinema actually. Although I was about 2 at the time, and my mum was just quite pleased that I slept most of the way through and didn’t scream the house down I think. My sister was a big Star Wars fan so she’d really taken her. But it was one of my favourite I think definitely. You know it had everything in it. It’s got Hans Solo
H: Does answer the question. And it’s got Hans Solo, at the age of 2 – even then. Working it! Right I’ve got another question from Games 2C – “what is your favourite moment with Sam?” What was your favourite moment with Sam?
N: Well obviously as the love interest we do get quite close at one point, so that was probably -
H: So it was getting off with him?
N: Well you know, virtually I suppose as much as you can when you’re filming computer game – he is the other side of the room still
H: Oh really?
N: Yes unfortunately
H: So when you’re kissing in the game, you’re being synced up from other sides of the room?
N: Yes
H: So you’re kind of having to -
N: Snog air basically
H: Improvise
N: Basically
H: So how was that?
N: Very strange. That’s a big difference between shooting a movie and shooting, you know, a computer game. In movies you actually get your hands on the other actors but I – no Sam was quite -
H: I bet he was gutted!
N: I think I was more gutted than he was, bless him!
H: Well here we go, another question from Ross, similar theme – “how did you get involved with being in the game, casting process – is it very similar to real film?”
N: Exactly the same. I had an audition through my acting agent in exactly the same way as any other acting job that I’ve got. I went along and luckily they quite liked me so I got the part
H: Did you give the evil eye to your competition in the casting room?
N: I did trip up one girl so she fell down the stairs. No I didn’t!
H: Fantastic!
N: No I didn’t, I didn’t – I so could have but I – I know we did think about it! But no. I’m very pleased I’m here, that’s the main thing
H: So Nathalie, which formats is the game available on?
N: It’s on Playstation 3, Playstation 3, X Box 360, Nintendo DS, PSP and the Wii
H: So everything but the PC
N: Pretty much everything but the PC
H: Lovely. Ok we’ve had another question through from David, and David wants to know – “Nathalie, which one of the two Storm Troupers is your favourite?” Because you’ve got size and sort of -
N: This is rather tricky because they both have their guns pointing at me. I’m going to have to go for – you know he’s a little bit bigger
H: And it’s just all about size!
N: Well you know, I’m quite tall so -
H: Ok
N: So if we were to go out for dinner one day
H: If you’re going to take a Storm Trooper to Nobu it’s not going to look good
N: You know, sorry. But - oh no, I’ve upset him now
H: Ok on this basis I had another question actually for the Storm Troupers themselves. I’m going to ask you, ok this is Bill and Bill says “what do you think of the game?”
S: What game?
H: The game that we’ve just been talking about for –
S: Oh that game. I think it’s great
N: You’re in it so -
H: Yes but you’re being battered
S: I know
H: You can deal with it?
S: Yes. Somebody’s got to do it!
H: Lovely. Lovely. Ok well thank you very much Nathalie, that is it, we are running out of time. If you want to grab a further look at this game right now check out theforceunleashed.co.uk and I’ll leaveyou with another preview of the game. Thank you very much for watching, and may the force be with you all

“You were weak when I found you, now your hatred has become your strength. At last the dark side is your ally.
“Look out”
“You are one of Vader’s spies”
“I bring Darth Vader’s enemies to justice”
“Vader thinks he’s turned you – but I can sense your future. And Vader won’t always be your master”
“Poor boy. The Sith always betray one another”
“You’re still loyal to Vader? After he branded me a traitor?”
“There’s much comfort here – your feelings for your new allies are growing stronger. Do not forget that you still serve me”
